The ruins of Ardvreck Castle sit at the east end of Loch Assynt, on a promontory projecting into the Loch.

The castle dates back to about 1490 when the lands were owned by the Macleods of Assynt. The castle was a place of refuge, betrayal, attack and ultimately capture. Some of the stone work was used to build the nearby Calda house (Which can be seen on the opposite bank, now also in ruins after a fire) by the MacKenzies of Assynt after they captured the castle in 1672.

The entire area of Assynt as absolutely gorgeous.

The Mackenzie estates were seized by the Crown for their support of the losing side in 1745 uprising and have remained in ruins ever since.

This is the site where I really lost my temper. We made our way across the promontory to view the ruins up close. There are big signs-"please respect these ancient structures and do not climb on them". Of course there was a couple who had climbed up into the middle of the castle-and they were pashing. I was feeling really ill, and just lost my sense of decorum and yelled at them to get off and show some respect, Very scary in my cranky Australian accent!
They grumbled but did get off.

En el Camino de Santiago, a unos tres kms. de la leonesa población de Sahagún y al lado del río Valderaduey, se encuentra la ermita de la Virgen del Puente.
De estilo mudéjar, data del siglo XIII.
