On top of the dome of the Capitol Building in Washington DC is the Statue of Freedom. It was created by Thomas Crawford and is 19 feet (6 metres) high. It was lifted into position in 1863.
The sculpture is also known as "Armed Liberty". Around the globe on which she stands is inscribed "E Pluribus Unum" - "From Many, One".

The roofline of NAS's executive offices at 2101 Constitution Avenue, N.W., Washington, D.C. is decorated with Egyptian-style foliage and figures of lynxes, owls and - on the corner - a coiled snake. These are all symbols of wisdom or alert observation.
The building was designed by Bertram Grosvenor Goodhue and opened in 1924. The decorative sculptures seen here are by Lee Lawrie.
