This view of Chapel Street in Stratford-on-Avon, Warwickshire, shows the Shakespeare Hotel on the left hand side (now part of the Mercure chain) and, at the far end, the Guild Chapel.

The Shakespeare Hotel occupies a grade II* listed building. This half-timbered structure dates back to the early 16th century. The Guild Chapel was largely built in the 15th century as the chapel for the Guild of the Holy Cross, which was subsequently suppressed by Henry VIII.

Charlecote Park is a stately home in Warwickshire which has been the residence of the Lucy family since the 13th century. The current house was completed in 1558 and was visited by Queen Elizabeth I in 1572. It is now owned by the National Trust.

The two large paintings above the doorway show Captain Thomas Lucy (1655-84) and his wife Catherine Wheatley (died 1714). They were painted in 1680 by Sir Godfrey Kneller.

The table in front of the doorway is pietra dura and was bought in 1823 by George Hammond Lucy at the sale of the contents of William Beckford's Fonthill Abbey.

This cabinet and chairs are part of a set in the library at Charlecote Park, a National Trust house in Warwickshire. They are decorated with inlaid patterns, including ivory. They were made in India although when acquired by the Lucy family they were wrongly thought to be Elizabethan English. The cabinet has sixteen drawers which were used for storing catalogue cards for the library collection.
