CP 101-19 slides under the searchlights at Mount Pleasant led by CP SD70ACu 7008. (ex-CP SD90MAC 9131) At the time, the Progress Rail SD90 rebuilds were bouncing back and forth through the Toronto area for weeks, and I managed to flick my first ones in CP red and beaver that week. Check out that storm lighting behind the power. Recently, a large swath of the SD70 roster is rumoured to have been relegated to trail-only status pending onboard computer issues that affect basic function, although a handful have been witnessed in the leading position within the last month despite the recall across the CP system.

Back in late February last year, CN was running detours on the CP between the Weston Sub connection in Toronto and Montreal. CP #703 heads west past the Summerhill clocktower with locomotives from both Canadian class ones. CP SD70ACu 7028 (ex-CP SD90MAC 9143) and CN ES44AC 2890 head up the mile-long manifest on this cloudy morning.

Westbound #2-421 hits the banked curve at Mount Pleasant with the RAF 'Spitfire' unit leading. It blends into it's surroundings quite effectively, doesn't it?

CP SD70ACu 6644 (ex-CP SD90MAC 9160) is numbered not only for identification, but for a date. Remembering June 6th, 1944 when the allied forces stormed the beaches at Normandy under heavy machine gun fire with heavy casualties. Sure puts into perspective the crisis (still) going on at the moment, doesn't it?

CP SD70ACu 7030 (ex-CP SD90MAC 9103) wears a decal of the coat of arms named for Lord Strathcona on the nose, part of CP's long history of keeping the colonial spirit alive. Shade aside, it's neat to see decal application is not dead at CP, many might recall the RCMP 'musical ride' decals that the railway applied to their first couple orders of AC4400CW's in the mid-nineties to the mid-oughts. For some reason these feel more appropriate on the flanks of modern diesels than say, CSX' shitty attempt at a "heritage" fleet of fallen flag-stickered AC44's, for example...
