Running around it's train, the 0800 job rolls east under the Highway 400 overpass south of town on the old Meaford spur, operated by the Barrie-Collingwood Railway.

Barrie-Collingwood GP9 no.1001 creeps down the old Meaford Branch between Essa Rd and Innisfil St in downtown Barrie, Ontario. The train has returned from serving Comet Chemicals on the south end of the spur in Innisfil, and TAG Environmental a couple of miles south of downtown, returning with tankers and covered hoppers behind two battered and beat up ex-CN ballast hoppers.
A decade or so ago, the BCRY had a job out of Utopia every weekday. Nowadays, only on monday's and thursday's will one be able to catch the high-hood Geep 9 and it's short train head eastbound out of the yard around 8am. Sad to see service cut in half with the loss of the line to Collingwood, but fortunate that a shortline like this still clings to life in 2021.

The old CN Meaford Sub was sold to the BCRY in 1998, and, until 2011, did actually connect to Collingwood serving a handful of customers in town. The condition of the spur west of the CP Mactier Sub is dormant...rusting rail sat upon rotting ties and old ballast, covered in weeds and obstructed by vegetation, all the way to downtown Collingwood, where it turns into a rail-path.

The local finally trundles into the yard at Utopia, Ontario, and will take the switch that leads south towards the small interchange yard to hand off the tank cars and hoppers to CP. After dropping those four, the 1001 will leave the empty ballast cars somewhere close to the crew office before ducking into the shops building for some shut eye until the following monday.
