This is not what I usually expect to find at the base of a 240ft shaft, during and abseil inspection I heard flapping at the base and thought it would just be pigeons, was amazed to see it was a Peregrine and was happy to help it out and then to the bird hospital.
I'm not sure why the Perigrine ended up down the shaft, maybe it dropped some food, went after some prey? This was it's lucky day as it was 20 years since anyone else was down this shaft an it wasn't getting out by its self; the shaft was too narrow to fly up and it had hurt its wing a little by trying.
Now looking a bit happier, just before the RSPB turned up.
