We took a walk around the UAB campus shortly after we arrived. There were many trees lining the street with thick coatings of a striking yellow lichen.

Across the street from the Native Orchid Conference symposium headquarters is this imposing, yellow building. I'm not sure what is its use, but it is definitely a landmark. The outside of the building is covered with yellow enameled panels.

This year, the four-day Native Orchid Conference symposium is being held at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. This is a large campus loaded with lots of interesting sights.

Being in the northern latitudes, the sun rises at about 5:30 am and it's still light at 10:00 pm! That should give us plenty of time to photograph orchids on the field trips.
