Just a brief visit to a nearby location to see if I could find Spring Beauty in bloom. I did find it and a couple of other wildflowers.

While driving to the Poinsett Bridge, we passed a dozen large turkeys (Eastern Wild Turkeys) gathering next to the road. We stopped just down the road, and quickly grabbed our cameras. By the time we got close to the gathering spot, they were beginning to spook. I managed to grab a few shots before they crossed the road and disappeared into the woods. I'm no Jim Ridley, but I'm satisfied with these shots. It was a fun surprise...

Day trip to a little-known state Heritage Preserve - Poinsett Bridge Heritage Preserve. Poinsett Bridge is the oldest stone bridge in South Carolina, and was built in 1820 to connect the state capitol, Columbia, to Saluda Mountain. It is said to have been designed by Robert Mills, architect of the Washington Monument. The bridge is named after South Carolina native, Joel Poinsett, the first United States Minister to Mexico.

We didn't go just to see the bridge, but also to see the large number of various Spring ephemeral wildflowers that bloom in early April.
