The view from Bankfield House, Halifax Bankfield house was the home of the mill owner. So this was the boss's view of the houses of his workers who went off down the hill to work on the wool that came from Australia to Yorkshire. The big house eventually became a museum of the weaving industry and continues to be so. But the interesting thing for me was that one of the early curators of the Museum was Henry Ling Roth. It was from this position that he wrote his famous "Aborigines of Tasmania" book, that was, in a way, a product of his having worked in Mackay on a study of the sugar industry in Australia.
