The Anchor LIne was a Glasgow shipping company specialising in routes across the Atlantic and to India which lasted until 1980. Their ships were generally named ending in -ia. The California seen here was built in 1907 and sunk by a U-Boat in 1917 whist en route New York to Glasgow. She sank in nine minutes with the loss of 41 lives although the other 174 people on board survived.
