This card is wrongly captioned. The Lochnevis was the regular Portree mail steamer from 1934 to 1958 but the ship seen here is actually the Lochearn (built 1930) which must have been deputising on the route while the Lochnevis was away being dry-docked. The Lochearn's regular route was the Inner Isles Mail from Oban to Tobermory, Coll, Tiree, Castlebay (Barra) and Lochboisdale (South Uist) until 1955 and then Oban to Tobermory until she was sold to the Aegean in 1964 with the advent of car ferries.

MacBraynes' Claymore (1881-1931) leaving Portree for her next port of call on her cruise up the west coast, probably Gairloch. I can't decide if the foreground and the sheep have been montaged onto the photo.

The ship is MacBraynes' Lochfyne which was the regular ship on the summer Oban to Iona and Staffa sailing from 1930 (when she was new) to 1935 (when she was replaced by the King George V). Her hull appears to be grey suggesting this would be in 1930 or 1931 after which she was repainted in traditional MacBraynes black.
