It went back to the library today.
A first book by this Australian author set in a norhtern small town where everybody knows everything about everybody and roumors stay a long time.

Back to the library today.
The most interesting one was the one in the middle. The English title of it was "The girl on platform one". Set in the Second world war it deals partly with the trains which sent children from Prag to the UK but also what happened to their parents.

I'd never come across this author before,but was attracted by the cover.
With an aging father living on his own after his wife died, his two grown up children get him a live-in carer called Mandy.
The book has many twists and turns and a lot of humor. Well worth reading.

Don't think the book title sums up the book, even thought the Chinese girl in the story comes to England for a year to learn English and falls in love with an older man. She writes down all the new words she learns in a note book and you get one of these at the beginning of each short chapter.
