Wat Phutthaisawan is situated on the south bank of Chao Phraya River. The temple was built in 1353. The main prang (Khmer style pagoda) of this temple is surrounded by a square cloister. The inner wall of the cloister houses rows of golden Sukhothai Buddha images.

Wat Phutthaisawan (also spelled as Phutthai Sawan or Buddhaisawan) was one of the temples that survived the destruction during the second fall of Ayutthaya in 1767 (The Burmese–Siamese War of 1765–1767)
