a surprising find in the backyard, looking so shiny but feeling so soft - I was expecting a hard plastic feel, it's more akin to fabric

Painted Apple Moth caterpillar ... Orgyia anartoides

gave me a bit of a fright on the outdoor table ... I sat down, had me coffee, reading, watching over Saxon (during his out-of-the-crate-elizabethan-collar-off time), then I hear this plop in the foliage undergrowth beside the table, then I look up at the vines above me and sure enough there were a few more clinging to the leaves ... apparently they "balloon" (meaning spin silk threads to float on the wind) ... one right above me, I got out of it's way!

a little huntsman that's been living in our kitchen/dining area

maybe depicted a little too closely, makes me a bit nervous and I'm the one who took the shot haha ... they are pretty harmless though, as long as you keep out of their way
