LMS 'Crab' on arrival at Llandudno Junction with an SLS railtour from Birmingham (Snow Hill) on 27 March 1966. 42727 was turned at the shed for the journey back.

42727 was a Birkenhead locomotive at this time, being withdrawn early in 1967 and cut at Cashmore's Newport yard in the June.

Ex-LMS 'Royal Scot' 46163 Civil Service Rifleman, makes a spirited departure from Leicester Central on 7 April 1964. It was working the Leicester-Doncaster part of an Ian Allan 'Locospotters' tour from Paddington, the southern leg being worked by 7029 Clun Castle.

46163 was withdrawn from Annesley in August 1964, being cut up early the following year.

With various television and radio programmes marking 50 years since the publication of the Beeching Report, here we have BR-built 41224 on arrival at Northampton Bridge Street with the 8.45am from Wellingborough on 14 April 1962.

The line through Wellingborough to Peterborough closed two years later in May 1964, although that through Bridge Street survived for many years afterwards for goods traffic only.

There is a level crossing and signal box behind the photographer, this view being from a footbridge that spanned the track here.
