Red Rover 146, one of their ex-Nottingham Leyland Nationals, pictured in Buckingham Street on a local service in August 1981.
Red Rover is, of course, no more, swallowed up by Luton & District in January 1988. 146 was still in the fleet, but was not operated by LDT. It is still listed by the DVLA, although has not been on the road since 5/88. The Two Brewers, along with a whole chunk of that side of the street, has since been redeveloped.

In 1988, Luton & District acquired Red Rover/Keith Coaches in the January, followed by Tourmaster Coaches in the June. This picture represents both; ex-Red Rover Bedford YMT 240 stands at Dunstable, The Square, with a Tourmaster feeder service to Luton on 9 July 1988.
The paraphernalia alongside is worth a second glance; the street map of Dunstable with push-buttons to light up important places in the town (yes there were some), the London & Birmingham distances, the ex-London Transport bus stop and bus shelter, a rather civilised hipped roof affair.

Leyland Fleetline/MCW OKW 515R was much travelled. New in 1977 to South Yorkshire PTE, it subsequently ran with South Yorkshire Transport, Red Rover, Luton & District, Motts of Stoke Mandeville and back to Sheffield with Andrews, before entering preservation.
It is seen here as Luton & District 704, although still in the livery of Red Rover, passing through Dunstable on a Sunday 61 working from Aylesbury to Luton on 24 April 1988.
I have absolutely no recollection of Max's Bakery, now Jenny's Restaurant. We tended to use The Bread Bin, which was opposite.
