Livingroom from the 1950s with the shelves "String", introduced in 1949. The shelves were designed by Swedish architect Nisse Strinning together with his wife Kajsa Strinning. The shelves are still in production today.

The lamp is the PH5-lamp, designed by Danish architect and author Poul Henningsen in 1958. The PH-lamps are designed with multiple concentric shades. They obscure the light source and make the lamps glare-free. The lamps are still in production today.
Poul Henningsen was a sharp critic of Nazism. German troops occupied Denmark during World War II and in 1943 Henningsen fled to neutral Sweden in a rowboat together with among others the Jewish architect Arne Jacobsen.
My parents bought the PH5 in the early 1960s and I bought it in the 1980s.

In 1785, the privilege to brew and sell beer was granted in Lützschena. In 1822, Leipzig wool merchant Maximilian Speck von Sternburg bought the estate of Lützschena, which included the brewery, as grazing ground for his sheep. In 1948 the ownership of the brewery was made public as was common under the government of the newly formed state of East Germany (GDR). In 1991 the brewery was finally closed.

The cathedral to the left and the cloister to the right. The cathedral was the first building in the new Gothic style to be erected in Germany. The first parts were built 1209-1253. The west end was completed 1274-1363, when the cathedral reached its final length of 120 meters. The great west towers were built 1477-1520, each 104 meters high.
In 1546 the catholic cathedral was closed. In 1567 a conversion was done to the protestant faith and the first protestant sermon was held in the cathedral.
