Another brisk day, woke up to 0°F after a surprising full 8 hours of sleep (I normally average 6 1/2). I have to admit that as much as I dislike the cold I have become aware of the wonderful silence that accompanies it. People and their animals stay inside so there is very limited noise pollution from vehicles running, dogs barking, birds chirping, and even leaves rustling in the trees. It is stillness and silence and peace.
Oh, the tea is "pomegranate burst" green tea from Good Earth, it is one of my favorites! Also, the journal has returned since that was my goal this week to include it in every shot. My daughter and I have been drawing together for 30 minutes each morning before she goes to school. I have very limited drawing skills and hope that I will improve with practice if not, that's ok, I just love spending the creative time with my girlie.

Leaving it minimal and simple today. I tried a couple of different compositions but they sort of fell flat. It has been a good morning though. I won a breast cancer awareness mug, towel, hairband and bracelet at Jazzercise this morning, yay me. Now to be fair there were only 2 of us in the drawing so my odds of winning were pretty good. With it being breast cancer awareness month, this is my public service announcement to remind you to get your mammograms or nag those you love to get theirs. Breast cancer awareness day is Oct. 21st.

Yesterday while mowing the lawn I finished listening to "When Breath Becomes Air" for the second time. Nothing like bawling your eyes out while walking behind a power mower. The book is such a beautiful testament to figuring out how to live a meaningful life. Paul Kalanathi, the author, was a brilliant man and I am grateful he found meaning and drive to share his story. Start today and examine your life, where do you find meaning and purpose? No one can define your values for you, this takes work, time, and self-reflection. It's like the quote “The trouble is, you think you have time” from Jack Kornfield's Buddha's Little Instruction Book we skitter away our time mindlessly. Today I slowed down, breathed, sipped tea and enjoyed the sunlight in the crisp morning air.
