The angle of the afternoon sun shows off the surface detail on this old aircraft - many of the rivets and removable fasteners can clearly be seen.
The aircraft is painted much as it was in 1943, and adorned with the name 'Mylcraine' which was that of the wife of the then pilot, Flight Lieutenant Henry 'Pat' Lardner-Burke - a South African credited with shooting down 7 enemy aircraft. In 1941, he managed to land his plane (not the one in this picture!) back in Malta after he was seriously wounded - a bullet passed right through him, exiting his chest. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for gallantry.
