Top of the line full-sized Chevrolet for 1958 was the Impala 2-door Hardtop Sports Coupe.
Sharing much of the styling with the other 1958 full-sized Chevrolets (Bel Air, Biscayne, Delray and wagons), the Impala included the best of everything. Engines, trim, features and comforts were all premium content. The Impala also made the most on the new, for 1958 only, Chevrolet body. Clean style Hardtop or Convertible bodywork, extra chrome trim, and soon-to-be-trademark 3-segment rear lights (missing for 1959 only), the Impala was the ulitimate late-50's American dream car on wheels.
This model has been built for Flickr LUGNuts 28th Challenge - Animal Kingdom - for cars that feature animal names. The Impala is a wild deer-like animal from Africa that is fleet-footed and graceful. It is easy to see why Chevrolet choose such a name for the top-line car during the hedonistic Classic period of car design.
