The Geelong Botanic Gardens is a jewel within an otherwise quite industrialised city. Founded and built on Gold Rush money in the late 1800's, the garden has an olde worlde feel, with some very mature botanic specimens.
New on the scene are these curious fungi, sporing after much recent rainfall. Initially orange in colour and flat in form, they then turn black, furry and almost insect-like.
Strangely, we were actually at the gardens trying to walk my wife into labour with the wild weather - but we kept stopping too much and taking photos.
