Built for Flickr LUGNuts 50th Build Challenge - "The stuff dreams are made of" - the 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air was one of the most popular cars in the USA during the mid fifties. Last year of the 'tri-fives', the 1957 was a cosmetic stop gap during a year in which most of the other GM full-sized series received new bodies. Fortunately, a number of Chevrolet Corvette high-performance mechanical systems were also made available, including fuel injection, making a 1957 Chev an early, affordable street rod.
Iconic fins, chrome, two-tone styling and a bunch of pillarless body derivatives also turned up the styling quotient to make for a collector car valued far beyond its original exclusivity.
And to the story......
I asked her where she was going.
A simple 'Away.' was her response. I decided to probe a little further.
"From?"
"The past."
And with that, she eased the car back on to the road, tickled open the carbs, and gently burbled down the street until the fog obscured her tail lights and muffled the last of her exhaust note.
The Model.
This model is a progression on previous 1950s GM full sized cars I have built in Lego miniland scale (1:21).
It features a full-frame, separate chassis, Vee-engine lego piston engine, live rear axle, independant front suspension. The body has opening doors, trunk (boot) and hood (bonnet). This car has about all the standard chrome lego that I have to throw at it, along with the very rare very light grey, used for the aluminium trim on the rear fender.
Celebrating LUGNuts 50th - thanks Lino, Nathan and the moderators for all your effort, encouragement, criticism and awesome models.
