The daily driver (for work puposes) of this vehicle is Bruce, the highway patrol man. You can see he uses a radar to check the speed of passing cars before giving chase to meter out justice.

This is the type of car used by the Australia Police Forces at the time I was beginning to drive. Not that I was chased down by any of these - no point, I only had 60 hp at my disposal.

The VL Holden Commodoe was released in 1986, the last of the line for thr original V-Series Commodore. Requiring the use of Unleaded petrol, Holden turned to the Nissan Motor Company for its new 3.0 litre inline six cylinder engine. An unexpected pleasant surprise was the availability of a turbocharger version, lifting output from 114 kW to 150 kW. This exceeded even the 5.0 litre V8 (122 kW) - though later performance/race engine would lift this higher. Unfortunately for Holden, the recently floated Australian dollar collapsed, sending the cost of the Japanese-sourced engine soaring to more than half the value of the car.

The Commodore, although fairly basic, handled quite respectably, and used its light weight to its advantage. They made excellent Police pursuit cars. Ironically, ten to fifteen years later they became the standard fodder for bogan hooligans to oversteer into street furniture in. Though very popular new, they are now rarely, seen due to said hooligans premature destruction of their populations.

The hooligans are now working through one of the VL Commodore successors, the VY-VZ Commodore of 2002 - 2008.
