This Lego Chevrolet 1955 Bel Air was designed as a prototype build to assist in the design of the 1955 Chevrolet Cameo for the LUGNuts December 2010 Build Challenge.
The body has been developed from my adaptation of the 1957 Chevrolet featured in the Lego theme parks and on the cover of the Lego book. Legoland has many forms of the car, though they don't really open and close.
The pair shown here are the 1955 Bel Air, which is the top trim specification, shown as a four door pillarless hardtop and a Convertible. The two door wagon, identified as 'Nomad' is featured in the June 2011 LUGNuts Challenge 'Cars, Too!" in 1956 form, as is the two door hardtop Coupe, in 1955 form, named 'Coral'.
The 1955 Chevrolet was the first of the 'tri-fives', the 1955 - 1957 full-size Chevrolet line, popular among collectors of classic cars.
