Japan's first supercar, the Toyota 2000 GT was released in the late 1960's.
Styled by Count Albrecht von Goertz, the design was originally created at Yamaha for Nissan. When Nissan rejected the proposal, the production car was manufactured and sold on behalf of Toyota.
The original models were fitted with a Yamaha developed twin camshaft inline six cylinder engine of 2.0 litres. This was later increased to 2.3 litres for nine out of the total of 337 cars produced.
Famous in its own right, two special 2000 GT convetibles were produced to star in the James Bond movie 'You Only Live Twice'.
The car is now consideres a higl valued, rare gem. Technically, however, it was behind the pace of supercar development in Europe and considered underpowered compared to exotic versions of fast American machinery.
Nissan was to later develop their own vehicle along a similar theme, the 240Z, which became an enormous success on the US market.
This lego model has been developed for Flickr LUGNuts 35th Challenge - Big in Japan, celebrating cars, bikes and trucks from the Japanese auto manufacturers.
