King's School, Brook Street, Grantham, Lincolnshire.
Captain Albert Ball VC, DSO & 2 bars, MC 1897-1917 attended this school in 1906 & 1907. He was awarded the Victoria Cross for most conspicuous & consistent bravery in 26 combats during which he destroyed 11 enemy aircraft & forced several others to land. He was killed in action in May 1917 at the age of 20.

Lance Corporal Joseph Tombs VC 1888-1966 attended this school in the early 1900s. He was awarded the Victoria Cross for conspicuous gallantry on 16 May 1915. On his own initiative he crawled 100 yards under heavy shell and machine-gun fire to rescue four wounded men.

Mary Ann Rawle 1878-1964.
Lived in Grantham 1910-1964. Women's Social and Political Union suffragette. Imprisoned in Holloway Prison The suffragette march from Edinburgh to London in 1912 met in this hall.
Mary Ann was born into a family of Lancshire cotton workers before marrying Francis Rawle from Denton in 1900. In 1907 she was arrested in her first suffragette protest and sent to Holloway Prison, earning her a brooch from Sylvia Pankhurst in commemoration of her imprisonment. Mary Ann continued to be active within the suffrage movement after moving to Grantham in 1910, presiding over meetings, as chair of the local branch, and supported the march from Edinburgh to London. Some of the marchers stayed overnight at the Angel and Royal Hotel. She died in 1964 and is buried in Grantham Cemetery.

Isaac Newton (1642-1727).
Born at nearby Woolsthorpe Manor, Newton attended Grantham Grammar School (now the King’s School) between 1655 and 1661 and lodged with apothecary William Clarke in the High Street. Both sites are marked with plaques. Newton would go on to deliver his most important works and key discoveries while living at Woolsthorpe
The King's School received its present name in 1909 but has an unbroken history on the same site since its re-endowment in 1528 by Bishop Richard Foxe. Its history can be traced back to 1329.
