Designed by Decimus Burton as part of the planned town of Fleetwood. The project to build a railway and a new resort town on the Lancashire coast bankrupted its promoter, Sir Peter Hesketh-Fleetwood, and by 1842 the original scheme had been abandoned, leaving the street pattern that still exists today and a few grand buildings that show the scale of his ambition.

The Custom House became the Town Hall when Fleetwood became a Borough in 1933.
Stained Glass.
Borough of Fleetwood Coat of Arms.
The arms were officially granted on August 25, 1933.
The main colours of gold and blue, the nebuly dividing lines and the martlets are from the arms of the Fleetwood family with particular reference to Sir Peter Hesketh-Fleetwwod, who laid out the town and gave it its name. It was the first planned town of the Victorian era. The red rose refers to Lancashire and the galley to the deep-sea fishing port and that Fleetwood is the believed location of the lost Roman port of Portus Setantorium.
