Grade l listed.
Built at the joint expense of the Huddersfield & Manchester Railway and Canal Company (absorbed by the LNWR in July 1847) and the Manchester & Leeds Railway. The foundation stone was laid by on 9 October 1846. It was partly opened for the commencement of services in August 1847, but not completed until October 1850. There was only one platform until 1886. The station subsequently became the joint property of the Lancashire & Yorkshire and London & North Western Railways.

Harold Wilson was a Labour politician. He was Prime Minister 1964-70 and 1974-76. Born in Huddersfield in 1916 he moved to the Wirral during his school days but remained a supporter of Huddersfield Town Football Club throughout his life, attending matches whenever possible. He died in 1995.
