Operating in the morning shadows of Mt. Robson to the north and Mt. Fitzpatrick to the south, VIA Train 2, the eastbound Canadian is running ahead of the advertised and will arrive early into the next station stop: Jasper, Alta.
This view is from Skyline dome-lounge 8512, built as Canadian Pacific (CP) 512 between 1954 and 1955. In this mid-train position, the car serves as the "Activity Car" to sleeping car passengers, fulfilling a multi-purpose role that elevates the on-board experience for passengers. In this car, VIA Rail on-board staff serve up snacks, beverages, and also deliver entertainment that includes live music performances, movie presentations, and travel talks.
The Skyline dome third from the head end as seen in this image serves a similar role for coach passengers.
