I was on my way home from field work, an overcast day with occasional rains and thunderstorms. I saw a little girl and probably her grandma walking along the road. I understand, they were on their way home, the grandma fetched the child from school. Many school children in the country walk for hours, even cross a river for some, just to go to school. Here, the child is luckier for having a paved road to walk, unlike the others who live in remote, mountainous areas.

This barangay is quite remote to the provincial capital and located near the forested (zona forestal) land. We've been there to call for a consultative meeting re the proposed Catanduanes Natural Park which would cover almost the whole timberland of the province (more than 41,000 hectares). This Park primarily aims to preserve and conserve the forests, biodiversity, water and other resources of the island from exploitation.

She's 80 years old, we met her in a landlocked village of Progreso, San Miguel, Catanduanes, Philippines. When I showed her this shot, she laughed and said she looked young. She asked for a print and I promised to give her as soon as I had.
