Some shots from the tournament at Bolsover Castle in mid July. Four knights represented the north, south, east and west of the country and fought a series of bouts. It was one of those few very hot and sunny days - they must have been roasting in that armour! The knight above represented the north and turned out to be one of the knights (known as the Warwick Warriors) that provided the evening entertainment at Warwick Castle and knighted our grandson last week.
Some more shots below. Another of the knights, acting as squire to the knight in red (representing the south and the baddie of the group), was the other knight we saw at Warwick.

The Battle of Evesham (1265) was the main event of the festival, with around 750 re-enactors taking part. Simon de Montfort was losing support and was confronted by a much larger army led by Edward, Prince of Wales. De Montfort's army was defeated and he was killed. Henry III returned to the throne where he reigned until 1272 when he was succeeded by his son, Edward I.

Evesham Medieval Festival was another exciting re-enactment, visited with our grandson last weekend. On the Sunday, two battles were re-enacted - the first was the Battle of Lewes (1264) where Simon de Montfort and his rebel barons fought against Henry III. De Montford's side won, Henry and his son Edward were captured.

The shot above is Simon de Montfort (on the white horse) and the rebel barons. De Montford's horse "King" is apparently famous in re-enactment circles and we also saw him last month at Tewkesbury. The shot below is a clash in the Battle of Lewes. The rider on the right of the image is Edward, Prince of Wales (who became Edward I).

Some more shots from the Black Country Living Museum's 1940's weekend. Various areas of the military were featured in the reenactments. The Hilda Odgen like character in my last main image marched our grandson over to the RAF recruitment desk to sign up - as can be seen in the first image in the comment.
