After a cloudy, unpromising start, we were treated to a beautiful sunset, as the floodlighting on the castle came on.

Eilean Donan must be one of the most photographed castles in Scotland - but it's hard to resist a shot or two when passing and I've photographed it quite a few times myself. I've always wanted to see it at sunset but on our last visit to Scotland, despite several visits at the right time, it was always too cloudy. This time, the forecast wasn't good most of the week but on our last evening, it looked like there might be the hope of a break in the clouds. There must have been around a dozen other photographers there. waiting for the same thing. It was cloudy when we arrived and as the light faded, some of the photographers started to pack up - but we waited, knowing that the castle would soon be floodlit, at least. Suddenly, there was a glimmer of pink in the sky, the other photographers set up tripods and cameras again and we were treated to a spectacular sight!

A couple more shots below - the first when we arrived and the second, that first glimmer of pink in the sky. These were all taken on my tripod - a rarity for me and still a bit tricky, as it was rather windy. I'll post a few more shots from this evening in the next few days.

We returned home yesterday from a week in a cottage in the pretty village of Plockton - relaxing, despite less than perfect weather. This was taken in one of the few sunny intervals, which we had to make the most of - an hour or so earlier we got drenched in a downpour and it clouded up again shortly after I'd taken this shot. I've still managed to come back with lots of photos to process (and delete) but hope to have a few decent ones to show this beautiful part of the world.
