The Red Deer calf seemed rather reluctant to follow it's mother into the water, which might have looked a bit deep for it's shorter legs! Seen from one of the hides at Leighton Moss.

The Red Deer at Leighton Moss came near enough to the hide to hear them munching. They seemed to be enjoying themselves, feasting in the reeds.

It was raining when we left the Lake District, so we nearly didn't bother calling at Leighton Moss on the way home. We decided to chance it and the rain eased off and though we didn't end up seeing many birds, we did get to see some Red Deer hinds and their calves, emerging from their cover amongst the reeds to feed. About 6 of them ended up quite close to the hide.

Pair of Common Darters on an egg laying mission at RSPB Old Moor last week. We also saw lots of similar pairs on a trip to Chatsworth yesterday (along with more butterflies that I've seen all summer) - but getting both in focus wasn't easy!
