My first hike and camping at the Matanuska Glacier in the early 1970s was very different from what one can experience now. There was no 'admission' to glacier access, no 'fee' to hike and explore.
Now, it is highly restricted according to what you are willing to pay.... from the cheapest $30 per person self-guided to several hundreds of dollars for guided day hikes, the 'powers that be' have highly restricted access over the years, and found a way to make money from 'ownership' of one of Nature's free natural wonders. \:-[
