Joel was a graduate student at Temple University. He received a Ph.D. in physiology and anatomy. His research involved the effects of X-rays on cancer tumors in mice. I thought this was quite remarkable because at that time X-rays were known to cause cancer. Today the treatment of cancerous tumors with radiation is common.
