The beginning of the end the moment the demolition charges went off. The youngest of the Clay Lane Blast furnaces was in service for about 15 years and was about 24 years old when this photograph was taken. In comparrison the Redcar blast furnace was blown in in july 1979 and is now in its 34th year.
