La chiesa di Santa Maria di Portonovo è un prezioso esempio dell'architettura romanica italiana. Si trova alle pendici del Monte Conero, affacciata sul Mare Adriatico e pochi metri sopra la spiaggia di Portonovo (località in provincia di Ancona). La sua costruzione risale all’XI secolo ed era affiancata da un monastero poi però distrutto nel corso del 1500 a causa di continue frane, che tuttavia hanno risparmiato la chiesa.

The church of Santa Maria di Portonovo is a precious example of Italian Romanesque architecture. It is located on the slopes of Monte Conero, overlooking the Adriatic Sea and a few meters above the Portonovo beach (town in the province of Ancona town, Italy). Its construction dates back to the 11th century and was flanked by a monastery which was later destroyed during the 1500s due to continuous landslides, which however spared the church.
