La cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta è il luogo di culto cattolico principale di Volterra (Pisa).
Non è sicuro quale sia stata la prima cattedrale cittadina; in ogni caso a partire dal IX secolo esisteva una chiesa dedicata a Santa Maria.
Ricostruita dopo il violento terremoto del 1117 e consacrata nel 1120, fu poi ampliata nella seconda metà del Duecento. L'interno, pur conservando nella struttura e nell'impianto la forma basilicale a croce latina a tre navate, mostra un aspetto tardo-rinascimentale.

The cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta is the main Catholic place of worship in Volterra (Pisa province, Italy).
It is not certain which was the first cathedral in the city; in any case, starting from the 9th century there was a church dedicated to Santa Maria.
Rebuilt after the violent earthquake of 1117 and consecrated in 1120, it was then enlarged in the second half of the thirteenth century.
The interior, while retaining the basilican shape of a Latin cross with three naves in the structure and layout, shows a late Renaissance appearance.
