La fabbrica in questione è il cotonificio di Crespi d’Adda (Bergamo), sorto nella seconda metà del XIX secolo e attorno al quale venne costruito, per volontà dei proprietari, un vero e proprio villaggio per ospitare operai e dirigenti della fabbrica.
Lo stabilimento è rimasto in funzione fino al 2003, mentre le casette del villaggio sono ancora oggi abitate e tutta l’area è stata dichiarata nel 1995 Patrimonio dell’Umanità dall’Unesco.

This factory is the cotton mill in Crespi d’Adda (Northern Italy), built in the second half of the XIX century.
Around the factory, its owners decided to build also village for the workers and managers, following the example of what happened in Great Britain during the Industrial Revolution.
The cotton mill worked till 2003, while the houses of the village are still inhabited: all the area has been inserted in Unesco World Heritage since 1995.
