La Piazza del Comune a Cremona rappresenta uno degli esempi meglio conservati in Italia di spazio pubblico medioevale.
E’ chiusa su tre lati dagli edifici simbolo del potere religioso e civile della città: il Duomo e il Torrazzo (sulla sinistra ma non visibili nella foto), il Battistero, la Loggia dei Militi e il Palazzo Comunale.
La piazza è situata nel punto più alto della città e ad essa convergono numerose vie, secondo il tipico schema urbanistico medioevale.

Cremona is a town in Northern Italy famous for being the country of the violin.
But Cremona is also a town with interesting buildings from the Middle Age which surround the “Town Hall Square”: the Cathedral with the bell tower “Torrazzo” (on the left side, not visible in this shot), the Baptistery, the Soldiers’s Loggia and the Town Hall Palace.
Several roads converge to the Square, according to the Middle Age style.

La Piazza del Comune a Cremona rappresenta uno degli esempi meglio conservati in Italia di spazio pubblico medioevale.
E’ chiusa su tre lati dagli edifici simbolo del potere religioso e civile della città: il Duomo (XII sec.) con la sua torre campanaria (chiamata il Torrazzo, alto 111m), il Battistero (XII sec.), la Loggia dei Militi (non visibile in foto) e il Palazzo Comunale (sulla destra).
La piazza è situata nel punto più alto della città e ad essa convergono numerose vie, secondo il tipico schema urbanistico medioevale.
Non è una piazza molto ampia, per cui se si vuole riprendere i suoi monumenti bisogna affidarsi ad un supergrandangolo con la conseguente distorsione di immagine.

Una vista del Battistero del Duomo di Cremona, ripreso dall'alto campanile del Torrazzo.
Il Battistero, a pianta ottagonale, fu costruito a partire dal 1167, ma subì significativi rimaneggiamenti nel corso del XVI sec. quando vennero ricoperte di marmo le due facciate prospicienti la piazza.

The shot was taken from the high bell-tower of the Cathedral, called "Torrazzo".
The Baptistery has an octagonal plan: it was built starting from 1167, but in XVI century significant restorations were done, like for example the coverage with marble of the two sides whick look to the square.

Il Torrazzo è il campanile del Duomo di Cremona. I suoi 112.27m di altezza ne fanno il campanile storico più alto d’Italia: per arrivare alla sua sommità bisogna percorrere ben 502 gradini, ma si è ricompensati con una magnifica vista sulla città.
La sua costruzione risale all’inizio del XIII sec.

The Torrazzo is the belltower of the cathedral of the italian town Cremona (Northern Italy).
It has an height of 112.27m, being the highest historic belltower in Italy: to reach the top you have to run 502 steps, but the view on Cremona is great.
