Carsulae è un'antica città romana del III sec. a.C. situata vicino a Sangemini (Terni). Sorse lungo il tracciato occidentale della Via Flaminia Antica, che collegava Roma con Rimini.
La città ebbe notevole sviluppo nel I sec. a.C., ma in seguito, con la perdita d’importanza di questo ramo della via consolare, venne abbandonata.
Solo verso la metà del XX sec. gli scavi archeologici hanno consentito di riportarla alla luce, anche se gran parte della città giace ancora sotto il terreno.
Attualmente nell’area archeologica è possibile vedere la zona del foro con i resti di una basilica e di due templi gemelli, un teatro, un anfiteatro e l’arco, detto di San Damiano, che segnava l’ingresso alla città; tutti questi reperti sono fortunatamente in uno stato di conservazione piuttosto buono.

Carsulae is an ancient roman village which dates back to the III cent. b.C; it is located in Umbria (Italy), near the village of Sangemini (Terni).
It arose along the western track of Flaminia Road, which linked Rome with Rimini.
The village grew in I cent. b.C. but later, with the loss of importance of this branch of the Flaminia road, it was abandoned.
Only around the middle of the XX cent. the excavations allowed to find again the village, even if the most part of it still lays under the ground.
Actually in the archaeological area it is possible to see the forum zone with the remnants of a basilica, two double temples, an amphitheatre and the Saint Damiano’s arch, which was the entrance gate to the village.
All these remnants are in a good conservation status.
