La Porta Maggiore, costruita nel II sec. AC, è ancora oggi uno dei punti d'accesso al centro storico di Ferentino (FR).
E' chiamata anche Porta di Casamari per via del suo orientamento verso l'omonima abbazia cistercense distante qualche Km da Ferentino.

The Porta Maggiore, built in the 2nd century. AC, is still one of the access points to the historic center of Ferentino (Italy, in Latium region).
It is also called Porta di Casamari due to its orientation towards the Cistercian abbey of the same name, a few kilometers away from Ferentino.

L'Acropoli in questione è quella del borgo ciociaro di Ferentino (Frosinone). Visibili sulla sinistra le possenti mura che la sorreggono, risalenti probabilmente al II sec. a.C.

Il Duomo di Ferentino (Frosinone) si trova sulla sommità del colle su cui sorge la cittadina.
Di origine romanica (XI secolo), ha subito interventi nel '600 e poi nel '900. Al suo interno va menzionato il pavimento cosmatesco risalente al XI secolo).
Dalla piccola piazzetta antistante il Duomo si gode di un bel panorama.

The Cathedral of Ferentino (Italy, province of Frosinone town) is located on the top of the hill on which the town stands.
Of Romanesque origin (11th century), it underwent interventions in the 17th century and then in the 20th century. Inside, the Cosmatesque floor dating back to the 11th century should be mentioned. From the small square in front of the Cathedral you can enjoy a beautiful view.

La chiesa di Santa Maria Maggiore a Ferentino (Frosinone) risale al 1150.
La facciata mostra un ampio portale, realizzato con materiale di recupero, e un rosone sormontato da una edicola.
Altri due piccoli rosoni si trovano ai lati in corrispondenza delle navate laterali (la chiesa ha infatti tre navate).

The church of Santa Maria Maggiore in Ferentino (province of Frosinone town, Italy) dates back to 1150. The façade features a large portal, made with recycled material, and a rose window surmounted by a shrine. Two other small rose windows are located on the sides corresponding to the side naves (the church in fact has three naves).

Il centro storico di Ferentino (Frosinone) è racchiuso entro mura che risalgono al VI secolo a.C., realizzate con enormi blocchi calcarei incastrati tra loro senza malta cementizia.
Le mura presentano tuttavia rifacimenti databili al II sec. A.C., mentre in epoca medioevale vennero integrate con torri realizzate con pietre di forma irregolare cementate con malta. Esaurita la loro funzione difensiva, le mura vennero successivamente usate come fondamenta per abitazioni.

The historic center of Ferentino (Italy) is enclosed within walls dating back to the 6th century BC, built with enormous limestone blocks fitted together without cement mortar. However, the walls have renovations dating back to the 2nd century BC, while in the Middle Ages they were integrated with towers made with irregularly shaped stones cemented with mortar.
Once their defensive function was exhausted, the walls were later used as foundations for homes.
