A series of 7, featuring Ada the amaryllis. Ada was given to me as a tiny seedling by a green-fingered friend, who managed to raise her and her sister from seed about 3 years ago. Sadly Ada's sister failed to thrive and passed away in the garden soon after moving here. Ada, however, decided to carry on throwing out leaves and growing a little bit. We never thought that she would ever flower, especially after she was put outside last summer for her health with a magnificent set of leaves - which were promptly munched away by the slugs! Yuk, what a terrible experience for her, and how neglectful were we of her. Poor Ada. Undaunted, when she came back indoors, she grew some more leaves, and then thought - to hell with it, and produced a bud and these lovely flowers!
