A Variegated grasshopper (Zonocerus variegatus, Orthoptera); quite common in the miombo forests and savannahs of Mikembo (DR Congo, Katanga, 1 February 2025).

Early morning fieldstack of a live specimen, based on 69 images (fast method, Zerene Stacker, Dmap & Pmax). Sony A6500 + Laowa 65mm f/2.8 ultra macro apo; ISO-200, f/2.8, 1/200s, -0.7 step, natural diffused light.

Immediately after NEST FINISHING the wasp lays an egg into the pot.

Simply looking procedure lasts more than 1 minute. I took many hand-held shots to get some material for stacking.

For this photo I picked 21 shots in a row (taken in 28 seconds). Finally I used 19 and am quite sick now after completion - there is no software which can help you not to spend several hours to compensate all (mostly tiny) wasp movements.. Processed using LR, ZS and Corel PP :)
