Rivau Castle is both a medieval fortress and a Renaissance castle .
Its first foundations date back to the 13th century. It was then a fortified house. The quadrilateral formed by the four walls and the corner towers remains from this period. Located at the heart of the Anglo-French conflicts, Château du Rivau was strategically positioned. It dominated the valleys of the Vienne and Veude rivers, keeping watch over the main communication routes.
After the Hundred Years' War, the castle was rebuilt in the 1450s, making it both an impregnable fortress and a pleasant place to live.
