Lahardane
County Mayo
Ireland

In Ireland we stopped at a small village called Lahardane, where we learned the heart-wrenching account of 14 local villagers and their quest to seek a new life in America by way of the Titanic in April 1912. When the Titanic sank, eleven of them died, and the other three made a life for themselves in America. In 2012, they made a memorial for the lost passengers to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the voyage. Sculptures were created of the fourteen passengers and the Titanic. Plaques were made to tell a little about the story of what happened to the passengers. Two stained glass windows were made and put in the local church. One tells of the trip to the dock where they boarded the Titanic, and the other shows a life boat alongside the ship as it sank.

Wikipedia –
Lahardane (Irish: Leathardán) is a small village in the parish of Addergoole, County Mayo, Ireland, adjacent to Lough Conn and to Nephin, and close to the towns of Crossmolina, Castlebar and Ballina. Population in 2011 was 156.

Addergoole parish suffered the largest proportionate loss for any locality probably in the world when the RMS Titanic sank in 1912. The Addergoole Fourteen boarded the ship at Queenstown (Cobh). Three survived the disaster. There is a plaque in St Patrick's Church, Lahardane to the memory of the fourteen, as well as a memorial garden filled with sculptures to honour their memory.

I got the chance to handle a Harris Hawk at the School of Falconry located on the grounds of Ashford Castle. This is a headshot of the bird.
