Sandhill cranes leave the safety of there overnight ponds, on a rainy morning to head for there foraging grounds in New Mexico.
Overall numbers are stable but some isolated non migratory populations are in trouble.
They are beautiful elegant birds that are really fun to watch and photograph.

On a cold wet morning the Sandhill cranes leave for the fields. Given the light the only shot possible was a motion blur.
Sandhill Cranes are large birds that live in open habitats, so they’re fairly easy to spot if you go to the right places. In summer look for them in small bogs, marshes, and prairies across northern North America and the southeastern United States. In winter they form immense flocks in places like Bosque del Apache, New Mexico, and Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge, Texas. Their bugling calls are unique and can be heard from miles away—they can help alert you to this species’ presence, particularly as they pass overhead on migration

Snow geese come in by the thousands as the sun is almost gone, so I decided to try my luck with some motion blur. Snow geese make for fairly easy subjects to practice on given there predictable flight path, Only when they are flying towards you it is a bit hard.

Not sure if the Snowy Owls will arrive in numbers close to last year but one thing is for certain the Snow Geese have started arriving.

Wildebeest are born to run . They perform one of the largest migrations for mammals. in the world following greener pastures. This was one of my first attempts at motion blur. Ndutu plains, Tanzania.
