Paul Emery was a racing driver and creator of a number of front-wheel drive Formula 2 and 3 cars in the early fifties, all campaigned under the name of “Emeryson” and with financial backing from Alan Mann the marque went on to become an established F2 constructor.
For 1961 the Emeryson Climax F1 car was launched. The Belgian race team, 'Ecurie Nationale Belge' ordered three Maserati engined cars for drivers Lucien Bianchi, André Pilette, and Willy Mairesse all painted in the Belgian racing bright yellow. The teams best results were 4th for Bianchi in the Brussels Grand Prix and Mairesse an 11th in Syracuse in April, but the team replaced their Emerysons for Lotus 18s and offered the cars for sale.
Purchased by American Hugh Powell for Tony Settember and restored to original (Climax) running gear chassis 1004 enjoyed some sucess in 1961 and 1962.
But the team was underfunded and eventually dropped out of contention.
#1004 is believed to be the only surviving F1 Emeryson.
