Two of these were built basically as prototypes. The chassis design is along the lines of the type 35, but it is the engine configuration that makes this design so unusual. The 16 cylinder 3.9 litre is made up of two banks of 8 cylinders with two crankshafts. A simular system had been used by Bugatti in there WW1 fighter planes. Two Rootes Superchargers were mounted at the rear of the engine, one for each bank of cylinders. The weakness was the gear coupling that coupled the two crankshafts that was needed to allow the two crankshafts to turn in the same direction.
Though unsuccessful in Grand prix racing the cars won Hillclimbs at Klausen and Bernina in 1930
