GKN Saxon (Internal Security) Patrol Vehicle (1983-2010's) Engine Bedford 500 S6 164hp

The Saxon was intended to act as a cheap but efficient "battle-taxi" for units that would have to make long journeys from the UK to reinforce the British Army of the Rhine. It was made as a relatively low cost armoured personnel carrier based on a revised Bedford M series 4x4 truck chassis and other commercially available components. It is armoured against small-arms fire and shell splinters, but is not intended to stand up to any anti-vehicle weaponry. The vehicle has a single machine gun for local air defence The Saxon's hull is welded steel with a V-shaped under-chassis plate to deflect mine detonations. Seating is provided in the rear for up to ten troops,

The Patrol variant has upgraded for counter insurgent operations. This vehicle served in Afghanistan during 2007-10

The first operational Saxons were deployed in Germany in 1983, to equip mechanised infantry battalions. The Saxon has now been withdrawn from service in HM Armed Forces, but 147 are kept in storage. The Saxon has been deployed to places such as Bahrain, Brunei, Bosnia, Malaysia, Oman, Iraq and Afghanistan. Seven were delivered to Hong Kong in 1987 and used by the Royal Hong Kong Police until withdrawn in 2009. 75 Saxons were sold to Ukraine in 2013 predating the start of the War in Donbass

Saxons (new and second hand) are currently being operated in Bahrein, Congo, Cote dIvoire, Iraq, Jordan, Malaysia, Mauritania, Mozambique, Nigeria, Oman, Somalia and the Ukraine

Many thanks for a fantabulous

GKN Sankey FV432 (1962-71) Engine Rolls Royce B81 straight 8, 6500cc 220bhp Production 3000 approx.
The VV432 is an armoured personnel carrier variant of the British Army's FV430 series of armoured fighting vehicles. Used for transporting infantry on the battlefield. The FV432 is an all-steel construction. The FV432 chassis is a conventional tracked design with the engine at the front and the driving position to the right. Directly behind the driver position is the vehicle commander's hatch. There is a large split-hatch round opening in the passenger compartment roof and a side-hinged door in the rear for loading and unloading.
Although the FV432 Series was to have been phased out of service in favour of newer vehicles such as the Warrior and the CVR(T) series, they are now gradually being upgraded to extend their service into the next decade. In the light of the army's need for additional armoured vehicles in the Afghan and Iraqi theatres, the Ministry of Defence announced in August 2006 that an extra 70 vehicles would be upgraded by BAE Systems in addition to the 54 already ordered as part of their force protection initiative. The improvements take the form of an engine upgrade, a new steering unit, and a new braking system, as well as improvement in armour protection to a level similar to that of the Warrior.

GKN Tactica
Military Registration Number HI 90 AA
GKN SET
www.flickr.com/photos/45676495@N05/sets/72157623665201189...
The basic Tactica vehicle is of the forward control configuration. The engine is mounted centrally between the driver and commander, with a half bulkhead separating the driver's area from the troop compartment that extends to the rear of the vehicle. Both left- and right-hand drive versions of the Tactica are available. The semi-monocoque hull is made from high-hardness certified armour plate, providing protection from 7.62 mm armour-piercing attack. All vision blocks and driver's vision blocks provide the same level of protection, and the hull will also provide protection against fire bombs and other improvised devices. All six doors and vision areas have ballistic overlaps and the AL1-DCSR high-speed 'shoot-through' tyre system is standard on all wheels. To meet different operational requirements, Tactica can be supplied with a number of different turbocharged diesel engine combinations, coupled to a fully automatic or manual transmission.
Originally developed as a private venture by Glover Webb. The standard Tactica armoured personnel carrier is the basic model of a wide range of variants for a number of different missions. The Tactica was developed in 1988 using Glover Webb's own semi-monocoque frame, and the first vehicle entered service with an Asian customer late in 1989. Early in 1993, the vehicle entered service with the British Army. These are used for special duties in Northern Ireland, including EOD. The vehicle is also used for a number of civilian applications.
In 1994 Glover Webb was taken over by GKN Defence, late 1997 GKN closed down the Glover Webb operation, transferring development, production, sales and marketing to its main facility located at Telford, in Shropshire, production has since transferred to Newcastle upon Tyne
